Alice Springs Airport (ASA) is rolling out the second stage of its renewable energy strategy with an expansion of its Solar Power Station. Construction on the new 325kw photovoltaic (PV) system commenced this month. The project, valued at $1.9 million, includes the installation of steel structures that will serve the dual purpose of mounting the solar panels and providing shaded, premium car parking.
Next month NT Airports says goodbye to Katie Cooper, who is moving on after more than three years as General Manager of Alice Springs and Tennant Creek Airports. Katie has overseen a lot of changes during her time in Central Australia, and she took us through some of the highlights.TD: Which of your team’s achievements are you the most proud?
Alice Springs Airport (ASA) had an exciting start to 2014 when it played host to a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner test aircraft from Seattle. On its first international flight to pay a visit to launch customer Air New Zealand, the aircraft stopped in Alice for a week to undergo heat testing in the warm, dry climate of the Red Centre.
The commencement of additional services to Alice Springs Airport (ASA) in 2013 contributed to strong passenger growth for the first half of the financial year, with passenger numbers growing by 18.3 per cent. In the six months to December 2013, 346,600 travellers passed through the airport, compared with 292,900 during the same period in 2012.ASA General Manager Katie Cooper said 2013 was a significant year for the airport and for the region as whole.
Northern Territory Airports’ route development and airport marketing achievements have been recognised as the world’s best at the prestigious World Routes Airport Marketing Awards, held this year in Las Vegas. This year’s award comes off the back of previous wins for Darwin International Airport in 2012, when it took home the top spot at both the Asian Regional and Global events.
